Richard “88 Fingers” Turner Jr.
Inglewood, CA — Accomplished musician and music educator Richard Turner Jr. will host the 4th Annual Richard Turner Jr. Musical Gifts Scholarship Concert on Sunday, Sept. 13, bringing together live music, education and support for aspiring young musicians.
Known for his ability to play all 88 keys of the piano, Turner has worked professionally in music for more than 30 years. His career has included performances and collaborations with gospel artist Thomas Whitfield and legendary R&B artists James Ingram and Teena Marie. He also served for 18 years as musical director for smooth jazz artist Eric Darius.
A graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills with a degree in Music Education, Turner has remained committed to encouraging and preparing the next generation of African American musicians.
That commitment led to the creation of the Richard Turner Jr. Music Scholarship, which assists college students pursuing careers in music. The scholarship is designed to help offset educational and related expenses while young musicians continue developing their craft.
This year’s concert will also announce the three recipients of the 2026 Richard Turner Jr. Musical Gifts Scholarships.
Turner, affectionately known as “88 Fingers,” will headline the evening as the featured jazz pianist. The event will also celebrate his upcoming birthday.
The concert will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Breath of Life Seventh-day Adventist Church, 425 S. La Brea Ave. in Inglewood. Tickets are $35 and are available through richardturnerjr.com.
Proceeds from the event support young college students majoring in music education and help further the scholarship program’s mission of promoting music, education, empowerment and opportunity.
