Meet the Candidate: Dr. Khaleah Bradshaw Seeks Second Term as Carson City Clerk

Carson City Clerk, Dr. Kaleah Bradshaw

As voters prepare for the Nov. 3 general election, The Carson Compass continues its Meet the Candidate series, introducing candidates seeking to represent Carson and surrounding communities at the local, state and federal levels.

Carson City Clerk Dr. Khaleah Bradshaw says her first term taught her that changing city government takes time.

“I thought I would get it all done in my first term, and I was quickly humbled by the pace of the municipality,” Bradshaw said in her response to The Carson Compass candidate questionnaire. “However, entering my second term I am equally as encouraged to continue to create space for a millennial approach to local government.”

The City Council appointed Bradshaw in December 2021, after the newly elected clerk resigned, and voters elected her to the post in 2022. She said her year as the appointed clerk convinced her she could “really leave my mark” on the office. She is running unopposed.

Rebuilding Trust

Bradshaw named a lack of trust in elected officials, public safety and economic challenges as the most important issues facing Carson.

Her first priority, she said, is “ensuring the residents that the clerk’s office is doing everything possible to aid in government transparency.”

Part of the job, she said, is making sure council decisions are “readily available for constituents to access” and keeping the city’s web pages current. She urged residents to attend town hall meetings, volunteer at city events and get to know council aides.

“Carson is a city where residents’ voices matter,” she said.

Experience

Bradshaw was born and raised in Compton and moved to Carson at 21. She worked at Cal State Dominguez Hills for more than a decade, including eight years as director of government and community relations. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cal State Dominguez Hills and a doctorate in educational leadership from Cal State Long Beach.

“I have always used my voice in service of others,” she said.

Her Message to Voters
