From Girl Scout to Game Changer: Saela Johnson Empowers Girls Through L.I.F.E.

Carson, CA — A local high school senior turns her Girl Scouts Gold Award project into a powerful experience focused on confidence, self-worth, and empowerment for young girls.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Park in Carson, something powerful was taking place—something rooted in purpose, intention, and the belief that young girls deserve to see the very best in themselves.

Saela Johnson, a senior at King/Drew Medical Magnet High School in Los Angeles, is not just preparing for graduation—she’s building a legacy. Headed to college this fall and having spent nearly a decade as a Girl Scout, Saela is now bringing her journey full circle by creating opportunities for the next generation of girls to grow, lead, and believe in themselves.

As part of her Girl Scouts Gold Award project, Saela created Inspiring Girls Through L.I.F.E., a program designed to uplift and empower young girls by helping them build confidence, strengthen self-worth, and develop life skills that will carry them far beyond the moment.

L.I.F.E. stands for Lifestyles, Image, Fitness, and Empowerment—four pillars that guided an experience intentionally created for girls ages 10–17.

The first event, held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, brought together a group of young ladies ready to learn, grow, and pour into themselves in a space created just for them.

The day began with a self-love bracelet-making activity, which set the tone for everything that followed. As the girls selected beads and created their bracelets, they weren’t just crafting jewelry—they were creating personal reminders of their worth, strength, and individuality.

From there, the day unfolded into a series of meaningful, layered experiences—each one building on the next.

One of the most impactful moments came during “The Mirror Moment,” a powerful exercise centered on reflection and self-affirmation. Each time a whistle sounded, the girls paused, picked up their mirrors, and faced themselves. Speaking affirmations out loud—but inwardly, to themselves—they created a quiet yet powerful space for self-love, reflection, and confidence to take root.

The experience continued with a vision board activity, where creativity met intention. The girls mapped out their goals, dreams, and identities using images, words, and affirmations.

The day also included a guest speaker panel, where women shared real and relatable insights about self-worth, self-care, and becoming your best self.

To close out the experience, participants took part in a confidence walk, stepping forward one by one with intention and pride.

As a meaningful takeaway, participants also earned a Girl Scout badge.

“I wanted girls to have a space where they can just be themselves and feel confident in who they are,” Saela shared. “We hear so many negative things, especially on social media, and I wanted to create something that reminds girls that they’re already enough.”

The next session will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, again at Stevenson Park in Carson, with a focus on Fitness and Empowerment.

If you know a young lady between the ages of 10 and 17, consider inviting her to be part of this experience.

Because when girls are given the space to see themselves clearly… they don’t just grow—they rise.
